We have started a new reward system with our family. It's the one I used with my primary class, and it worked great for them. We had been giving them coins for helping out with chores, so they could earn their own money to buy toys, but it wasn't working. They really didn't understand, and it took too long for them to earn enough for what they wanted so they didn't care about it.
It's simple - we just have a mason jar and when they help with a chore, or listen the first time, or make a good choice, they get a clear rock to put in the jar. We mostly give them for helping clean if they do what I ask the first time without complaining, for listening to scriptures and being reverent during the prayer, for being patient with me when they ask me for something and I can't get it right then, and for going to bed without getting out until morning. Sometimes if I see them doing something nice for someone else I will reward them. They usually ask for rocks though. Halle is a little smartie pants. If Hayden ever does something wrong, she asks for one. "Mommy, I didn't spill! Can I have a wock??"
When the jar is all the way filled up, they get to pick an extra fun family activity for us to do together. First, they picked bowling, so that's what we did!
Hayden could do the whole thing by himself! He didn't want any help, or course.
Halle dropped the ball plenty of time. It's a wonder she didn't drop it on her foot, and all I had for her were sandals since I thought they would give her bowling shoes. Her feet were too small.
So fun!
It was so funny how she would hurry and take her turn, and then run back to her seat.
Hayden's video is too big, so I'll have to upload it another time.

I'm doing the same thing with my activity days girls...every time they can recite an article of faith, they get a marble in their jar. Great minds think alike. :)
And you've made me want to go bowling.
What a great reward system!!!! WAY better than money. And Halle is SO adorable when she runs back to her chair!! And I'm with Laura...I wanna go bowling now.
What a fun idea. We may need to start one of those at our house.
I like the idea about the rocks. A friend of mine suggested doind allowances but I am with you. It would probably take 6 months before Grant could buy anything he really wanted.
I love the house. Cute pictures.
