Day 5
This was only yesterday, so I can't believe I have already forgotten what we did. This week is just kind of a blur. Here's what I can remember... We started off with a trip to Lowe's where Hayden was so naughty he had to go sit in the car by himself. I sat outside to cool off. I can't believe how bad his tantrums get to me sometimes. This week has been especially bad. Since we have been so busy he will take any kind of attention he can get. Anyway, then we went to the house and waited for the dishwasher guys to come. While we waited I helped Derrick install the microwave. Then he went outside to play with Hayden for a while. We figured that since he had such a huge tantrum in the store he was desperately in need of some daddy play time. I stayed with Halle and washed walls/taped stuff off. The dishwasher guys came and Hayden had a box to play in. We convinced him to watch a movie in it on Derrick's laptop and he fell right asleep. Derrick and I ate lunch. We made a bunch of freezer meals a while ago so we wouldn't have to eat out and so we cooked our first meal in our oven! We taped off the ceiling in Hayden's room and marked the walls so I would know where to paint. Then we started painting Hayden's room and got it done so much faster because I didn't have to lug the heavy ladder around and go up and down a million times. After Derrick helped with the top, I started on the bottom. This is where I learned my lesson. Primer is your friend. There was one dark blue wall in the room, but we thought if it didn't get covered up in one coat we would just do two. Well I had to put three coats of orange on that one wall. At least it was quick.
This room is obviously not done. You'll just have to check back if you are curious how it will be finished. After that Derrick washed out paintbrushes and headed home. Ok, so I guess I did remember yesterday, but I know that it's all out of order. And there was some point where he took Hayden with him to Lowe's because we had to take a car seat out to fit some big stuff in, but I can't remember when. The whole week really seems like one really really long day.
Day 6 - Today
We dropped the kids off at the babysitter again. We headed to Lowes YET AGAIN. Then we made our way back to the house to get started. I sanded the bead board while Derrick installed the dishwasher. I just have to say that my husband never ceases to surprise me with what he can do. The people who lived in our house took all the appliances, which is common with foreclosures. The thing is that when they took the dishwasher out they didn't remove the wire in the back corectly. They must have just snipped it off, because it was way too short for us to be able to hook it into our dishwasher. This was a dilemma. To solve the problem, Derrick put an outlet into the wall where the wire came out, and somehow installed a plug on the wire coming out of the dishwasher so we could just plug it in. He's so smart. What a problem solver.
After that was done we started measuring and cutting the bead board to put in Halle's room. It's turning out to be a bit of a project, but he borrowed a circular saw today so hopefully that helps. And after this pink paint dried I realized it's going to need another coat... what a project this room is! (picture the bead board white.)
Here is a finished picture of the master bathwell... finished with painting anyway.
The best part of today though, was when we were on our way to the babysitter. We had the kids bucked in and were ready to back out when Hayden reminded us, "Say prayer." While it feels a little silly to have to be reminded by a two year old that we forgot our morning prayer, it makes us so happy to know that he's learning. We are far from perfect parents (especially this week) but we must be doing something right I guess.
On to Rocky!

You're getting so much done! I'm so excited to see all the finished products.
And don't be too impressed with my shade; I just followed a pattern. :) It was Simplicity 2765. Very easy and it has a couple different types of curtains on it.
WHat a week! Derrick is very clever. He is an engineer after all.
I love reading your posts too.
AH...Hayden is so sweet to remind you about prayer. What awesome patient kids. THis is quite a process.
Kudos to you guys for preparing freezer meals. YOu are so smart and organized Erin!
