Hayden was evaluated by some speech therapists, as his pediatrician recommended at his 18 month appointment. I was worried because at that time he wasn't talking at all really. But in the time that it took to set up the evaluations and everything he kind of exploded. I think I was mainly worried because all his little friends were talking a lot more, but it turns out that they were exceptional and he is just average. :) I can handle average. So he doesn't need any help! He is learning new words every day, even though Derrick and I are sometimes the only ones who can understand him. He'll get there.
This is my VERY FAVORITE word that he says right now. I had to bribe him with a little piece of birthday cake to say it on camera though.
- Waffle-
It's even funnier when he says it in the mornings and he is hungry. He more like yells it really excitedly and I think it's so cute.
Some other stuff:
Hayden found some ear buds and knew right what to do with them. Where do they learn these things? He has only seen me put them in MAYBE once.
Here I am - more pregnant than I have ever been. And more ginormous than I have ever been. I cut off my head because I am not willing to let anyone see that. UGH. I am so glad that last time my face fat was one of the first things to go, starting before I even left the hospital.
Our babyproof Christmas - I decided I was not willing to deal with Hayden taking off the ornaments and breaking them. I knew it would cause some problems and that I would lose all patience with him. We also really just don't have room for a real tree this year either, so this will have to do. I like it though. Here you can see all of our Christmas decorations except for the wreath on the door and the stockings on the wall. At least we have some Christmas lights and it will be easy to take down. Nothing huge this year, but I like it.
On to Rocky!

That waffle thing is pretty cute! I'm so glad that there is nothing to worry about with Hayden. Kids just develop on their own. It is amazing how much we worry about them and wonder why they aren't the same as their peers. I know that I do that too much.
I love the tree idea! The first year Hailey was big enough to get to the tree our bottom half was completely bare, because I had to keep moving the ornaments up. Looks like that baby should be here any day. Good luck and stay strong. I never made it that far, so I can not say I feel your pain.
How fun. I love the video of Hayden saying Waffle. IT really is cute! You look good Erin right now contrary to what you may think!
Happy Birthday Derrick. I am so impressed by that sign. Did you guys use Liz's Cricut? That is on my one day...I want one of those list.
Hayden is so sweet. I know what you mean about the talking thing. Owen got evaluated too. He was in the lower end of the average range for his age. I can deal with that too. What is wrong with being average? We as parents want the best for our kids and therefore want them to be above average in everything...at least I did and still do sometimes...but I have learned that average is great and to just let Owen be Owen. He is not one to love words and he makes up for that in other areas. I often blamed myself for him not talking as well as his above average talking peers, but I realize that kids that don't have parents that read to them every night and explain almost everything we do can be genius communicaters with out all that too. Kids are who they are even from the start and we should appreciate them as is. So...anyway. I will stop going on and on. I just relate.
I had to leave a comment about the whole speech thing (since I am a speech therapist!). I'm glad that you went ahead and had him checked, but I'm also glad that he's average! Most of the parents that I work with want their children to be above average, and that's great, but it's also great for them to be average. He will catch up and a lot of times it seems that even though verbally they are average, they may be above average in other areas (gross motor skills, etc.). Anyway, just keep talking to him! If they didn't give you any suggestions, and you want some, email me. You look adorable, by the way (even though I can't see your face)!
I should have said "I'm glad that you went ahead and had him checked in order to put your mind at ease." I don't want you to think I was worried about him - he seems to be doing great!
Hayden is soooooo big! I know what your saying about the talking thing. Cole is picking up alot more words lately, but I would venture to guess he's below average. I asked his pediatrician, and she said she wouldn't worry about it though, at least not yet! She said that some kids are just lazy about putting their words together, and it's not that big of a deal, to some. But you know every kid is different, and when they really want to do something, they always find a way! By the way, I'm sure you don't look bad at all! You actually look really cute pregnant! Your all belly, so cute!
Erin, you really look so cute! I hope your doing well, hang in there!
Erin, when my uncle was little he didn't start talking until he was 3 years old...and now he is a genious with a phD. So I really think people worry more than they should about 'talking' for toddlers. And in my opinion average is great. If I got the average score on a test I'm happy! :)
And thank you so much for your ideas! I don't know if you saw my response to your comment but your digital scrapbooking idea is GENIOUS! Thanks! :)
Kaden loved this video! He loves looking at pictures of Hayden! I think he really misses Hayden! I know we do! We miss you guys too:)
