Happy Birthday Derrick!

Today is Derrick's birthday! I can't believe how old he is! :) 26 today! It's too crazy to me. But it's a running joke in our marriage that I always think he's 23. Even when he was younger than that I thought he was 23. It turns out that I can't usually remember how old I am either though.

Sunday is a really good day for him to have a birthday, because it's during/around finals week usually and this way he doesn't have to do any studying on his birthday. So, we celebrated by opening his present first thing in the morning. He had to open it before church because it was a tie. We also gave him a Nalgene bottle. (and technically a toy helicopter that he opened early, but I still like to give him surprises when he does that.) Here he is by the sign I made him. Thanks for your help Liz! It turned out really cute. It even lasted about 10 seconds in Hayden's hands later that day. I have no idea how he got it off the wall.


Then we had dinner, which was Derrick's favorite ever - sweet and sour chicken (his mom's recipe). I only make it on special occasions for him. I have to admit I was kind of glad it was fast Sunday, because I always try to make every meal really special on his birthday, and this made it really easy :) Somehow I still ended up with three loads of dishes though. I made this Pioneer Woman chocolate sheet cake (click for the recipe) and it was sooooo good! You have to try it.



Hayden liked it too.
