Last weekend Derrick and I went to San Diego for a little vacation! Hayden stayed with his grandparents, and from what I hear he did fabulous. I wonder where this perfect little angel is that I take care of all day :). It was really hard for me to leave him. I even cried. I wasn't expecting that, especially after how naughty he was the whole day I was packing. I was in desperate need of a break!
Yay for free airline tickets. It was my first time on a plane since I was in 5th grade and I was surprisingly nervous! We didn't take any pictures because I was on the edge of a panic attack. Just kidding, it wasn't really that bad but I was just concentrating on breathing and not looking out the window. It was a tiny plane. Two seats on either side of the aisle.
The first night we stayed in a little hotel on Pacific Beach. We seriously had to walk about 40 feet to get to the beach! Here is the pier that was close to our hotel. They have a hotel on it too. We walked down and it was really cute. There were separate little tiny houses on both sides and people could just drive their car onto the pier and park in front of their hotel. I'm sure they were way expensive though.
The next day we met up with Derrick's brother Greg who drove in from Vegas. We went to Coronado beach and the boys were going to surf there, but the waves weren't good enough. We walked around looking for surf shops and ate lunch at this really yummy Mexican place. Later we went to Mission beach so they could do some surfing. I sat on a towel on the beach and read a book. It was so nice and relaxing, although I wish I had a chair. It's impossible to get comfortable for very long on a towel. I tried to make a little bowl shape in the sand so I could lay on my tummy but it didn't work very well. :)The boys (Derrick on the left). This was a huge surfboard, but I guess they are tall boys.
Me and D.
HAHA I love how people always write I love so and so in the sand on their honeymoons. I was missing my baby! There were so many cute kids that reminded me of him. He would have had so much fun on the beach.
Then we went to the hotel and got showered before dinner. We went to Cheesecake Factory with one of Derrick's mission companions and his wife. It was really fun and YUMMY! We went to their apartment first and they had just bought some cute little puppies! I think they were Yorkshire Terriers, and they looked like this little guy. They were probably only 6 inches tall at most, and I NEED one!!! I do not even like animals at all, but these are the cutest puppies I have ever seen.
Then we went back to the apartment and I feel asleep in about 6.5 seconds while the boys stayed up and watched the Olympics.
The next morning Derrick and Greg had to go to this presentation thing... We got a free hotel room and two free tickets to Sea World through this travel place, but Greg had to go to this 2 hour presentation where they try to sell more trips to you, and he had to take a friend. They were practicing their "no" skills the whole trip. :) I got to go to this cute little boardwalk with lots of shops and hang out for a while. It was so relaxing and nice! I can't remember the last time I was alone! The shops weren't open for an hour when I got there so I sat on a bench and read my book and ate starbursts.
Then Derrick and Greg came to get me for lunch. While we were eating they told me that Derrick had gotten talked into one of the packages! Greg said, "It's only 13..." And I said, " You spent thirteen hundred dollars???" They just looked at each other and tried to convince me of what a great deal it was... Later it came out that the package cost $13,000! That's thirteen thousand dollars!!!! I almost peed my pants! I seriously choked on my spit and my eyes started watering. Sure, $50/month for the rest of our lives, but that's a lot of money!! But I kept looking at Derrick really seriously and saying, "Are you really just kidding with me, or did you really buy it?" And he would never look me in the eye and say that he bought it, so I knew he was kidding! I love my husband, and that he can't look me in the eye and lie to me! So no, he did not actually spend $13,000.
After that we went to Sea World! We saw all the good shows: killer whales, dolphins, seals, that kind of thing. We got sunburns and ate expensive ice cream. And I hate buying 4 dollar bottles of water!
Then (this was a really busy day!) we went to a MLB game. We saw the Padres beat the Phillies. I'm not a huge baseball lover, but it was fun anyway!
Then we went to the hotel and I fell asleep in 4.3 seconds while the boys watched the Olympics.
The next day was Sunday so we got up and went to church. After that we drove to the beautiful San Diego temple.
Then Greg took us to the airport and we were on our way home! I sat in the aisle seat this time so I wouldn't be tempted to look out the window and have a real panic attack. Oh, how I hate landing!!!! It was really fun, but we are really glad to be home! Derrick's parents brought Hayden to the airport so we could see him right away. He was really shocked, like he had forgotten about us until he saw us again. It took him half a second to warm up to us but then he gave me the biggest hug of my life and wouldn't let go for anything.
Other Stuff:
He started saying two words that I think other people can understand. He says car and hot. He made up his own sign for hot. He opens and closes his hands, kind of like the sign for milk. He also learned how to climb up on the table. The first time he did it I found him with his arms in the cereal box.
We came home to tons more hobo spiders too. There were more in our trap behind the freezer, three on another trap, and we have both killed one since we got home. There are so many in here I can't really count them. Click on the picture to get a good view. And don't mind the dirty floor. Let's be real, it's behind out freezer. Who cleans there?
We are also pretty sure we have come up with a name for the baby. Actually, I had this name picked out for Hayden if he had been a girl. I think we are pretty set on how we want to spell it, but I am curious what people think, so take the poll on the right side of the blog!

Yay for a weekend away! Looks like a blast. You need trips like this every now and again...especially before #2 comes and it gets even harder to leave. Leaving can be so hard. Sounds like he did great though! :)
How fun! I LOVE San Diego! But I can imagine how hard it would be to go, Hallie has only been here 4 days and I think I would cry the whole trip! But I'm sure it was a nice vacation, and a great excuse for it to be just the two of you.
what a fun trip! I especially like the photo of the two guys and the surfboard. It could be on a postcard.
sounds like so much fun! San diego is such a fun place to visit. I am going to have to take Shadd there some day. But, I don't know if I could leave my baby... I don't know how you did it!
That is so fun that you were able to get away for an adult trip. I really wish that we could do that before the baby comes. Hmmmm... now you have me thinking. I am so glad that you had a wonderful time. =)
Sounds like a blast. I lived in San Diego for almost 5 years. Melanie was born there. Miss it terribly, so much to do there and the beaches are amazing. If I had my way, that's where I'd be for the rest of my life.
I voted for Halle. I love the name, btw.
Love ya!
I loved reading this post and I laughed so hard. I had to read Richard the part about the $13,000 that was great! Seriously though, you shouldn't put those pictures of the hobos up, I thought I would puke! You poor thing, I can't believe you have so many in your house.
Fun Trip...Scary Spiders! =0)
I laughed when I read your list of dumb things you've done. Pregnancy does that, huh?
Jay and I went to DC when Liesl was 9 months. It was a 9 day trip. It was totally awesome, but I missed Liesl terribly. When we came back, she refused to nurse any more, and I had forgotten how to change a diaper. Ha!
It's nice you had such a fun trip. I'm glad it only took you an average of 5.1 seconds to fall asleep each night while the boys watched the Olympics. ;)
Hobos are gross. I'm glad your traps work. So far I haven't found any here in WA, but we supposedly have brown recluses instead. Yuck.
That looks like so much fun! By the way... I love the name Hallie! I almost named Chloe that! Funny!
This makes me really want to go on a vacation!! I bet it was hard leaving Hayden. You look great!
I love the name you picked. I voted for Hallie but now I think I like Halle better. Have the hobos disappeared yet? We were getting spiders for a while but we haven't seen one for a week now, yay!
And I was also wondering if you could change my e-mail to long into your blog to: rebeccalee87@hotmail.com, that e-mail is registered as my google account for my blogs so I think it'll work. Thanks! :)
