No, it's not Father's Day... It's Derrick Appreciation Day!
It's the first day of school and the kids and I want to tell Derrick how much we love him! We're so proud of him for all that he has accomplished to get where he is. Everything he does is for us, his family, and we are so lucky to have him.
Today is a celebration of the fact that we get to have him in our lives.
Halle: Mommy, when I grow up, I'm gonna make stuff.
Me: What do you want to make?
Halle : (puts fingers on chin) Um.... wet me fink about it...
Oh! I know! Pea soup. And when you grow down, you're not gonna make stuff anymore.
Halle: Mommy, you know what I'm gonna dream about tonight?
Me: What?
Halle: I'll talk about it in the morning. It's going to be a surprise!
Halle: Mommy, you know what I dreamed about last night? I had a (cue really sweet soft voice and rocking actions) wittle tiny baby, and I rocked him to sleep at night. (cue scary loud voice) And then he waked up, and a dinosaur came, and ate him!
Hayden: I want a little baby duck. And she could be my duck, and I could hold her, and love her, and take care of her because she is my little baby.
Halle: But Hayden! When I was a little baby, you dropped me!
(and I completely busted up because it's true!)
Me: Do you like our family?
Halle: Yes.
Me: Do you like our house?
Halle: Yes. We need to clean it.
Me: Do you like your life?
Halle: Yes.
Me: What's a life?
Halle: I don't know. (thinking...) Oh! You're a wife! And Daddy's a husband, and Hayden and Owen are sunbeams!
( I really loved that whole conversation)
Halle: Someone said no to me today at nursery.
Me: Oh, was it your teacher or another kid?
Halle: 'Nother kid. I was sad. And he didn't even give me a hug or a kiss!
Hayden: Oh! It's raining today!
They opened the blinds and looked outside.
Halle: Oh, we are so bored today!
Thank you, Cat in the Hat. :)
Me: Today is Halloween. What do we do on Halloween?
Halle: Um, we watch out for dinosaurs!
Halle: Mommy, when you get done, I will give you a big hug! And a kiss!
Me: Oh good! I can't wait!
Halle: But you HAVE to wait Mommy!
What Hayden Said
2-2012
We've been teaching the kids about electricity and how it's important not to stick fingers or things into the outlets. I had to laugh a little when poor Hayden came to me with a sad face and said, "Mommy, I touched the outlights. Am I going to die?" It was actually the cable outlet that he had been touching. :)
2-2012
After telling Hayden multiple times to get his shoes so we could leave, we threatened to leave him behind if he didn't get ready.
Hayden: NO! You can't leave me! If you leave me home, I will go get into all your stuff!
10-17-11
Hayden was trying to open a can of root beer.
Hayden: I can't do it! It's locked!
8-14-11
Derrick: Tell mommy about the lights you saw in Gunnison. (he's talking about the prison)
Hayden: Oh, what's his name? ... Oh! It's prison! When the people make bad choices they have to go there. And they lock them up in a box! And they have to stay there all day!
August 2011
Hayden: I'm so glad baby Owen is here now.
Me: Me too! We waited a long time for him to get here.
Hayden: Yes. You did a really good job getting him out mom. That was hard work. Let me give you a high five!
