Yesterday was closing day! We didn't think it was going to happen because as of 12:30ish when I talked to our realtor, we were not cleared to close from the underwriters, and our appointment was supposed to be at 1. Our realtor hoped we could hear from them by the end of the day, so she told us to plan on around four. We were so frustrated because we already had waited 45 days and we have so much work to do! At 12:55 I got a call from Derrick saying that she got an email right after she talked to me and we were cleared to close! The underwriters were already at her office! They had to drive an hour and had just planned on keeping the same appointment that we had set. We had to hurry as quickly as we could to her office because they had another appointment an hour away at 3. We were pretty shocked that it was actually happening because we had lost all hope of it happening before the weekend. This whole buying a house thing is so complicated! It's hard to wait on other people all the time, especially when they don't communicate well.
After signing our life away a million times we finally got the keys to our new home! Here is Derrick actually using a key for the first time on our new place! (instead of using the realtor code to break in.. hehe don't tell!) It feels really good to go there and feel like it's ours instead of feeling like we have to be sneaky so no one wonders why we are breaking into this house. We had to go back a couple times to take measurements, see what things needed to be fixed, etc.
No need to wait any longer! We got to work! First thing is first: the kitchen. We want to get this room painted and ready first, so we can get the appliances installed and it will be easier to work on the rest of the house if we have to stay during dinner. Our apartment is almost 1/2 hour away so we don't want to go back and forth very much if we can avoid it.
We took the cabinet doors off to sand them. They are getting painted.
It started to get really hot. We can't get the water, electric, or gas hooked up until next week so we just had to open the windows and work without A/C. We didn't end up staying for very long because the kids were just done with the day. Abotu 10 mintues after we got there, the crosswinds blew a door shut and Hayden's fingers just happened to be right in the way. I can't imagine how bad it hurt because the door slammed hard. I felt so bad for him. Halle just didn't have enough to do even though we brought tons of toys. She's at the stage now where she freaks out if she can't see me, and freaks out worse if she can see me but I don't pick her up. So we decided to take the cabinet doors home to sand them and bring them back on Monday.
This is us trying to stay entertained.
On the way home we had to stop at Lowe's to get some stuff. Hayden had spilled water on himsels, so we had to take his shorts off. We had nothing else for him to wear so he had to go in the store with just a diaper and shirt and his sandals. Halle is a puke monster, so she was covered in spitup with nothing else to wear. We were all in our scrubby working clothes, and my hair was falling out of the pony tail. We looked a little trashy walking around the store. It was quite the sight. It was a long day, as you can see. He fell asleep on the ride home. I love how he's clutching his toys though. He's so cute.
Hayden has a toy vacuum, and we always wanted to buy him a real one because, hey, if he wants to vacuum, why not have him actually doing it with one that works? So we found a cheap one today that's just his size! The handle shrinks down for storage, but it works to vacuum with it like that too. We hope it will keep him entertained at the house too.
And here's Halle trying to crawl tonight.

Yay!! Congrats (again) on the new house! Buying a house is really so exciting, but now y'all get to do the most exciting part - decorating and fixing it up the way you want. I can't wait to see pictures along the way!
And poor Hayden's fingers! That hurt me just hearing about it. :( Halle is going to be crawling before you know it! She's getting so good. And where in the world did you find that vacuum cleaner?

How sad about Hayden. :( I think I'd cry (and will when it happens to one of my kids).
