house tour

We are here! The kids did so great on the flights. It was a long day, but we were so glad to be "home." (Even though it doesn't completely feel like home quite yet.) We got in late Friday night. Derrick and my dad had unpacked the truck and had got beds set up, but there was still more furniture to set up and boxes galore. We got most of it done on Saturday. Unpacking is way way easier than packing. We have so much storage here too. I am in super crazy organized mode, which is weird because I didn't know I had that in me! I almost feel like Tannie! I even had learning time today! LOL.

I know most of you probably don't care what our new apartment looks like, but here it is for the few who do. Don't mind a few boxes or random things here and there. We still have a few things to do.

Here is the front. We live in a duplex.

When you walk in the back door you see the kitchen. I am in love with this kitchen. It's huge. Our old kitchen was definitely a one person kitchen, but now Hayden and Derrick can come in without me loosing my mind. Don't mind the dirty dishes in the sink. I actually cook dinners now. Amazing huh?

This is the dining room (where I was standing in that last picture.) Don't mind the basketball hoop. It's usually outside or downstairs.
We also have our computer in the dining room. Behind the desk is a closet.
Through the kitchen and to the right you see this. The left door leads downstairs, and the right door is our pantry. A pantry! HOORAY!

To the right of the pantry is this little bathroom. That we don't use much... Don't you love the yellow toilet? I don't. It always looks like someone forgot to flush. Sorry, that was gross.

Downstairs...

...you see this! A little area for my crafty stuff, and a play area for Hayden. I have a feeling we will be spending lots of time in the cool basement this summer. The red hand truck is covering the door that goes to the laundry. On the other side you see...

More storage space! Since we are just going to be in this apartment for a few months we tried to keep as much as we could still packed. This is also why you won't see any pictures on our wall.

The big creepy laundry room. That white thing is a dehumidifier because it's soooo humid here! Don't you love that wet feeling? Good thing I accidentally bought anti humidity hairspray.

Through the door and to the left... We have a space for food storage which Derrick put up on 2x4s because of spiders! On the left by the wall you see a blanket on the ground and a cardboard thingy on the wall. That's where our laundry chute from the third floor empties! YAY for not dragging laundry down two lights of stairs... although I do have to drag it back up.

Back to the main level. When you walk through the dining room you get to the living room. It's nice and big! You will notice lots of lamps... It's one of those houses where it doesn't have ceiling lights and the light switches control the outlets. Good thing we found some good lamps for $10.

Standing by the front door.

At the top of the stairs and looking left... Down the hall. We have a linen closet and a coat closet. See? Storage galore! If you go straight instead of left, you hit the bathroom:
Pink toilet!!
Walk through the bathroom and go through another door. There is the shower. It's kind of nice that they are separated.
Then you turn left and walk into our room. The ugliest room of the house for now.

We both have our own closets!!! Who wouldn't love that? The side of my closet door that you see is broken though. I'm standing in Derrick's to take the picture.

Across the hall is Hayden's room.

My mom was getting rid of that blue couch so I took it. We put the rocking chair in Halle's room, and this couch in Hayden's for when we read bedtime stories. It's been really nice, but it's funny that he would rather sleep on the couch at night than his bed.

Next to Hayden's room is Halle's. She has been in our room since she was born, so it's nice to have her own place to sleep and nap. I don't love it in the middle of the night, but it does help me to not let her sleep in our bed. I was quite surprised at how little she wakes up in the night too. Only twice. (I guess this could be a lot for a 5 month old, but compared to Hayden she is a good sleeper.)

Changing table and her own walk in closet. Hayden has his own walk in too.

And crib and rocking chair.

That's pretty much our house. It's a little older and has it's quirks, but we love it. It's for sure a step up from our last places, especially size wise. Our next door neighbors are LDS too, so that's good. Church on Sunday was nice. It was hard for me, I'm not going to lie. It's always hard to be the new person. I feel like my inner shy person wants to take over. The girls (or women I should say... it's not as quite as young of a ward.) were all really nice though, so hopefully I just get over that. It just really made me miss my friends in my ward. Here I only have a few kids instead of a lot, and I'm one of the you. There are two nurseries Hayden's age, and they each have about a dozen kids. He does ask for Will, Claire, and Maddie still. :(

It's weird because we pretty much live in the forest. On the way home from the store one day I honesly felt like I was driving through the Provo canyon looking at cabins. Tonight during dinner I took this picture of some bunnies hopping through our yard.

We have a really beautiful back yard that backs up to some trees. Hayden loves to play there.

On our walk tonight we saw this huge turkey running around some person's lawn.

I have lots more pictures and fun things to share. But now I 'm going to eat some of the bread I baked today! YUM.

Bread really rises here!

P.S. We are cancelling my cell phone! We have a new landline, and we are keeping Derrick's number. You can reach me at either. Email me (1erin1 at gmail dot com) if you want the new numbers. Please do, because I don't want to loose contact with anyone.

I miss you.

Oh, we miss you guys soooo much already! I love that kitchen! The extra space has got to be nice - especially to have a room for each of your kids. I'm so happy for you guys, and I know you'll adjust... it just takes time. :) I agree that unpacking is quite the easier of the two. I like to organize, I don't like putting things in boxes. Take care!!

You finally got your kitchen. Hallelujah!

We miss you too. What nice place to move to though.

I have only lived in AZ and UT so I have never heard of a dehumidifier only a humidifier...crazy weird! Haha. And...a turkey. So funny.

I think your new place is great! I actually like the yellow toilet, until you pointed out the down side, that would be pretty gross. And the pink toilet, wow you're place is colorful! That's awesome! I love places with character. It's so big, why are you not staying there longer? Moving on campus?

Place looks great! I don't think I ever want to go back to living in Utah. I much prefer the wards outside the good ol' UT. Have fun!

Love the house!! It looks great! Love the kitchen too! Isn't nice having a big one? Since we moved into our new place with a small kitchen, I feel like I NEVER cook. Can't wait to move. ;) Love all the storage and everything! And your yard. It looks beautiful there!! I hope things get easier/better. It is hard being new, but you are so great I know you won't have any problems making friends! Everyone will love you! :)
