Halle's Birth Story

So I had this nice long birth story all typed out in Word, but for some dumb reason Blogger won't let me copy and paste. I'm not typing it all out again so you get the shorter version. :)

p.s. I'm not going to get too graphic or gross, but I will be using words like cervix, so if that makes you uncomfortable just skip this part :)

On Dec. 30 I was scheduled for an induction. I was supposed to call the hospital at 6:30 am to see what time I should go in. Instead, we were on our way to the hospital!

Contractions started at 3 am and they were so bad I couldn't lay down anymore. I decided at 4 to get up and eat something, because I knew that I was really in labor and it would be a long time before I could eat again. I timed contractions and waited for them to get closer. At 5 they were about 6 minutes apart so I decided to get in the shower. After I got out I woke up Derrick and told him we needed to go to the hospital soon. He had time to shower, but he needed to hurry! (we only live about 2 minutes from the hospital so I wasn't worried that we wouldn't make it) I finished packing my bags in between contractions while he was in the shower. I sat down on the bed after a bad contraction and felt a really sharp pain. As I stood up I felt a gush and realized my water broke! Derrick's friend came to watch Hayden and we were on our way out the door at 6:30 with contractions about 3 minutes apart.

When we got there I was a 5 + and 90% effaced. But they said I had a bulging bag, which means that my water did break somewhere, but there was still fluid between the baby's head and my cervix. They said that if it broke the head would move down and things would move really fast. If that happened I wouldn't be able to get the epidural! So they didn't make me wait an hour to see if I was progressing. They moved as fast as they could to get the anesthesiologist in so I could have my epidural. He was really quick and finally I was feeling really good. I got some rest, or at least tried because the blood pressure cuff kept going off.

The doctor said she would break my water at 8, but I wanted to wait until my mom was closer since she was on her way driving from a couple hours away. She ended up breaking it at 9 and I was complete at 10. My mom walked through the door right as I was starting to push. I pushed for four contractions and she was here!
It was all quite amazing. I think I am lucky to have such quick and easy labors. If I could skip most of the pregnancy part and just have the babies, I would probably have lots and lots of babies. I think it's my favorite part.

I'm glad you didn't have to push as long as you did with Hayden and HORRAY for epidurals!!! Glad you got one. She's a beautiful little girl, I'm so happy for you!

How cute Halle is!!! I hope I have labors like you, but not likely....I think the shortest of my three sisters was 14 hours. Let me know if you ever need anything!

What a perfect story and what a perfect little girl. She is adorable! I am so glad things went so well.

I am not sure if this will make a difference, but when I use internet explorer I cannot cut and paste things as well in blogger, but when I use mozilla firefox I have no problems.

you're a pro! Seriously! It's interesting...in the movies, there is chaos and confusion when the water breaks, but in reality it seems more calm and methodical. Way to go, honey! You have yourself a cute little family.

Such a beautiful little girl! I'm glad that your labor went well and I agree with you on the pregnancy thing. If I could skip most of the pregnancy, I probably would have lots of babies as well.

Congrats again! I'm with you... I think of the delivery and pain of it fondly, but I can't stand being pregnant! How is it being a mom of two??
