At the end of the day, Derrick usually takes Hayden and just plays with him until they are both worn out. They have lots of fun playing, and I am tired. I do love watching them. On nights when Derrick has something going on (namely homework) I have to be creative and find something to entertain Hayden because he just wants to play with Derrick. One night we decided to make a cheesecake, and Hayden got to lick the beaters! Every kid has to lick the beaters. It was funny watching him try to get it all into his mouth. He loves to sit on the counter and help me. He always has a lot to say. I wish I could get it on video, but he stops as soon as I get the camera out.
Afterwards we had our first dish washing lesson.
Hayden is turning into a two year old. Today he drew on our couch for the first time. I guess I could blame this on myself because I left a pen laying around, but Hayden got timeout anyway. We looked up how to get ink off couches and everywhere said to use hairspray, so that's what we tried. It worked! Halfway through cleaning it I realized I didn't get a picture of his first naughty artwork, so here is the mess mostly cleaned up. The dark spot on the right is what we had already done, and were working on the spot in the middle. It was huge.
It was actually sort of funny, because after Hayden did it I told him that Daddy wasn't going to be very happy about it when he got home. So when Derrick got home he ran to him all excited like usual, and then ran over to the couch pointing to it and telling Derrick all about it. At least he tells the truth!
I thought this was a perfect picture. Derrick is cleaning the mess while Hayden is in timeout.
He was actually in timeout for something else. I punished him for it as soon as I found it so he knew what he did wrong. We have done timeout many times today though. :) We aren't sure how it's working. Yesterday he did something he knew he was not supposed to, and went and sat himself in his timeout chair! He definitely knows why he is there and that he can't get up until the timer goes off, but he still keeps doing the same things over and over. He normally gets put in timeout for playing with the TV, playing with the computer, and hitting. I guess the reason he really goes into timeout is for disobeying because we always warn him first, but those are the things he usually disobeys us to do. I have heard it just takes a while though, so we will keep trying.

I think consistency is the key and it sounds like you are doing a good job with that. Our kids go through their phases and some days I think I just am doing everything all wrong, but then there are times when little things they do or say show that the punishments are working. He is just so cute!
Oh man, I am so glad you got the pen out of your couch. That is a little more permanent then a rug. I love your pictures though, especially the one of derrick cleaning and Hayden in the corner haha. Isn't being a mom fun sometimes???
It does take a while, kids are so smart, that is cute though that he sat in the timeout spot himself. Cole does stuff all the time to just test us, and to see what we will do about it! It drives me nuts though, I just think, 'if you know your not suppose to, then don't, I hate punishing him.' But, what do you do? Eventually they pick it up, and stop certain things! Others, it just seems they know they're not supposed to, but want to so bad, so they do it anyways!
Well, I have no kids but I do have a Garek and its kinda similar ^_^ I think I'd be annoyed but the whole thing makes me smile too. I love the last pic with hayden in the back ni timeout. so cute! You are just an awesome mom Erin.
Sorry about your couch. He is growing up so fast. I love how he sits in a bumbo for time out - that is a bumbo right?
Owen will run a mile a minute into the kitchen if I offer a beater to him. Heck...I like licking them too!
Don't you love the trouble they get into!! I love the pregnant belly. So adorable!! You look great!
