It's been kind of a rough week for my family. My sweet grandpa passed away on Friday. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to go visit him on Wednesday and to say goodbye. Grandpa was always so good to me. I always felt like his favorite. On Wednesday I couldn't sleep, so I stayed up and wrote out some of the memories I have of him. I'm glad I have so many happy memories of him. Here are a few:
On my birthday one year, he drove from his home in
Grandpa knew what treats I liked. He was famous for his chocolate chip cookies. When I would come to stay the weekend he would be prepared with chocolate milk and ice cream from the BYU creamery to make me yummy chocolate shakes. He also made me root beer floats. He thought it was funny how I would stir the ice cream and root beer together because I didn’t like big chunks of ice cream, so eventually he started stirring it together for me!
He would pop each of our toes and tell us that for every toe he got a pop out of, we had another boyfriend!
You could tell what an amazing man he was by how he had so many people who loved him with him in the days before he passed away. That's how I want to go -- peacefully, and surrounded by my family. I will miss him so much, but I am also so glad to know that he is free from pain and that he gets to be with my grandma again. I guess the best way to explain how I feel is by the hymn we sang in Relief Society today, Oh My Father. I had never noticed these words in the last verse before, and they brought such comfort.- When I leave this frail existence,
- When I lay this mortal by,
- Father, Mother, may I meet you
- In your royal courts on high?
- Then, at length, when I’ve completed
- All you sent me forth to do,
- With your mutual approbation
- Let me come and dwell with you.

Your Grandpa is so cute! I'm sorry that he passed away. It is so great that we have the gospel in our lives and that we know it's only a short time until we see them again!
That was such a good tribute to your grandpa. He seemed like an amazing man. I'm glad you had the opportunity to have that relationship with him, it is something I never got to have with my mom's parents because they died when I was one but I know if they were still alive our relationship would be similar to yours. Thank you for your constant strength, love and support you offer me.
That was a great post. I know how sad I was when my grandpa died. I had no idea. . . of course I've been out of the loop living in the world of NICU. Um, you know that babysitting is off for Tuesday, right? :) I'm so sorry that you watched Claire for us, but that we can't watch Hayden. :( I hope you can get to the temple this month.
Honey, I am so sorry about your grandpa! Writing down the memories you have of him is one way to keep him alive forever. You are good to do that.
What a sweet post. I am sorry to hear about your Grandpa. It sounds like he was a really wonderful man.
BTW...about mechanics. We really liked Ray's in Provo. We called him Ray but I am pretty sure his garage is called something else. If you want to know more just call. Hope that engagement party went well. :)
The funeral was nice. Too bad we didn't get to chat very much. We will all miss Grandpa he was such a nice & wonderful man.
