I'm not done catching up, but I had to take a minute to tell about Hayden, because he is such a sweet boy lately.
This picture was taken at the doctor's office. A few days before Thanksgiving, I was sick. Nasty sinus infection, so I made a doctor's appointment for myself. I had a neighbor watch Halle, but I didn't want to leave Hayden with her because he had a cough, so he came to my appointment with me. As soon as the nurse walked in, she said, "Oh, did you knew he has pink eye?" WHAT? I looked, and sure enough, his eye was all red. (this is when I started to feel like a bad mom.) So they took us to another room, a "quarantine" room, or something like that. When the doctor came in he checked me over, but he kept looking back at Hayden and asked if he could take a look at him. Turns out the poor kid had bronchitis and an ear infection. (And I don't believe he really had pink eye because it wasn't there in the morning, and it wasn't there shortly after we got home. I think he just rubbed it and irritated it, but way to make a mother feel like the worst ever by missing something like that.) Anyway, the doctor was really thorough checking him over, and mentioned a mole on his head. It just started out as a freckle less than a year ago, but it had grown quite a bit. He said I should take him in to a dermatologist. Having a family history of skin cancers, it's not something I am willing to mess around with, so I got him right in.

On the way to the appointment, he kept saying, "But mommy, I want to keep my mole ok." Unfortunately, he wasn't able to keep it. She said that it could be nothing, but it could lead to some sort of cancer later on, so we needed to remove it and biopsy it. The picture is Hayden holding an ice pack onto it so it wouldn't be so bad when he got the numbing shot. I had to lay him down and hold his arms down while the nurse held his legs and the doctor sliced it off. It all happened really quickly, but the numbing shot was the worst part. He was upset, but he's tough and got over it as soon as I picked him up and he got another sucker. As it was all happening, I tried to calm him down by explaining the numbing shot to him. "Hayden, do you remember how this morning Daddy went to the dentist? And the dentist put the pokes in his mouth and it made him talk funny? The doctor put the same stuff on your head, so it's going to feel funny for a while." All the way home in the car Hayden was telling me how he was talking funny now, just like Daddy. :)
He was really concerned all day about someone touching his owie, so he wore his baseball cap all day to protect his head. He even insisted in sleeping in it.
Other sweet things he has done recently:
Yesterday I stood up and hit my head on something. Hayden was concerned for me and said, "Oh mommy, you need a kiss? Come here, I will kiss you better." Sure enough, he kissed my head, rubbed it, and asked me if I was ok.
I put Halle down for a nap, so it was time for Hayden's quiet time on the couch. I put a movie in for him. Hayden likes it when I sit on the couch and read next to him during this time, so he said, "Mommy, you go get your scriptures and come back and sit with me, ok?" How sweet to get a reminder from him, especially when I usually read a for fun book at that time, and not scriptures, so he doesn't expect that from me.
Halle's been crying during diaper changes in the morning, so Hayden gets sad for her and comes and sits by her. He holds her hand and strokes her arm, and says, "It's ok beebee, it's ok. It's almost done sweetheart."
He is really a big helper with the cleaning too. While I was talking with my dad on the phone the other day, he cleaned up his room and the upstairs living room, and then started working downstairs. He actually asked me if he could vacuum! Then he was very disappointed when he missed helping me unload the dishwasher. This is coming from the kid who has always made the big messes, so this is huge to me!
We had our first Santa sighting yesterday. I took the kids to the mall because Cinnabon had a 25 cent treat promotion, and just to look at the Christmas trees and play on the toys for a while. Hayden is in love with Christmas this year. It's so fun to see it be so magical for him. He loves seeing pictures of Santa Clause and says things like, "I will get lots of presents for Santa Clause, ok? Can you call him and ask him if he has an upstairs in his house? So I can take his toys upstairs? Santa is my favorite friend!" Well we were standing by the area where Santa sits (he wasn't there yet) and looking at the lights and trees, when I saw Santa walking across the hall to sit in his chair. I turned Hayden around to show him walking, and he got so quiet. He was mesmerized. He had seen pictures and cartoons of Santa, but it was like he was absolutely amazed that he got to see Santa in real life. He was so excited. I asked him if he would want to go sit on his lap and tell him what he wanted for Christmas, but he said he would be too shy and put his jacket over his head.
When we went to the store I told him he could pick out a toy that he thought Halle would like, and give it to her for Christmas. He picked one (a set of play vacuums, mops, and brooms) and after Halle went to bed I let him stay up and wrap it. He did it mostly by himself and he was so proud. I told him the letters and he wrote Halle's name and his name on the tag. All the next day he would show it to her under the tree and say, "Halle, that's your name, and that's mine! This is your present! But don't open it now ok."
I'm not sure what's gotten into him lately, but he is so fun and so sweet. He still has his moments like any kid, but I am so grateful that he's mine.

I'm such a softy. This brought tears to my eyes. I seriously hope my kids are like yours. Can you tell me what you're doing so I can repeat it?
Ditto to Kelsey & Delia! Oh Hayden is so cute!I love your blog and reading all your fun stories *hint hint* no more slacking! jk
I'm so glad Hayden did good with getting the mole removed. I had one done about 8 years ago and I freaked out. What a brave boy! You're kids are so cute!
P.S. Do you own that train table? If so do you mind if I ask where you got it? I'd love to find one for Riley for Christmas.
