Hayden's Party

I added yellow this time.  I like it.  This cake didn't turn out as great as the practice one.  It always works that way, right?  Oh well.  Hayden didn't notice.  He had two slices. And another serving of ice cream. Not even kidding.  I let him.  After all, if you can't have two slices of cake on your birthday, then when can you?

Some decorations.

Our tradition - the birthday sign.

And the FRIENDS finally came!  He was so so so excited to have so many friends come over.

Take a good look at that monkey.  I am super proud of this.  I can be crafty, but I am NOT artistic.  Painting, drawing, getting things to look like they do in my head is not my specialty.  But I painted this monkey!  Isn't it cute?  Don't mind if I toot my own horn a bit.  This was an accomplishment.  And I made the banana bean bags so we could feed the monkey.  I also painted a lion for some pin the tail action, but it's not as great and I didn't take a picture of it yet.
How could a bowl full of bright yellow bananas not make your day a little better?

Opening gifts. His friends know him so well!  He got an elephant, a train, and a frisbee and kite!  Lucky boy.  Now listen to this complicated story about our gift to him.  So I wanted to make a Rollie Pollie from Dana Made it.  I got the white twill and made the inside part.  I ordered some yellow cord online because the stores here are lame. I didn't want to get $40 worth of stuffing, so I went to Goodwill.  They had three bean bags there, so I thought I could take the stuffing out of those and get two big sized ones and make Halle one too.  Well wouldn't you know it; one of the bean bags was made to look like a football.  I was trying to be sneaky and just put it in the garage so he wouldn't see it, but he came out and caught me.  So I let him play with it that night and he wouldn't leave it.  He had to take it to bed with him.  Derrick and I realized that if I cut up the beanbag he would be devastated.  Plus my yellow cord STILL hasn't shipped.  So we decided just to give him that one!  So he had no presents to open on his birthday from us because it was already on his bed, which actually made me really really sad.   And I could have just spend the money on that one bean bag chair instead of on all the material. I guess Halle gets it now.  At least he's happy with yet another football toy!

So overall it went really well! He had a ball.  After the games and puppet making and cake and ice cream (which no one took a picture of him blowing out the candles... why does no one but mom who is bringing in the cake think of this?  At least we got it on video.) the kiddies went upstairs to play in Hayden's room and give the parents a bit of a break to chat.  I love having all the toys upstairs!

He loved everyone singing to him, and has been singing "Happy Birthday dear Hayden" ever since!

Way to go Erin! What an amazing birthday party - I totally love it. :)

Claire got that SAME elephant from her grandma for Christmas. Claire loves Elephants.

And I know I've said this before - but Claire has almost the same shirt as Halle - only Claire's has fish on it instead of ice creams.

CUTE! Miss you....

Oh Erin! I LOVE that you always make the special effort to make your kids' birthdays AMAZING!!! They'll appreciate it as they grow up(even if they don't realize it until later). I think that cake turned out AWESOME!!

And, as I was reading Hayden's birth story I started crying. It made me think of Riley's birth story. That little picture of you and Hayden is so precious!! He doesn't look that much different than he does now, just more grown up. :)
