Derrick's brother, Greg, flew in the same night that I came back from my trip to Utah. Our flights actually ended up landing within ten minutes of each other - what a coincidence considering that I didn't get to choose my flight time. We enjoyed spending the weekend with him. Hayden loved seeing him again and still talks about how Greg took him to see the elephants and giraffes before we even moved here. Derrick was excited that Greg was sleeping between Hayden's room and ours, so Greg was the one woken up in the early morning instead of Derrick. :) We went to Chicago to see more of the city. We went to Navy Pier and saw a children's museum there, ate pizza again, and walked around the city to see some parks. We ended the night by riding on the Ferris Wheel during the fireworks. So fun! Thanks Greg!

The next weekend Derrick's parents came to visit. Let me tell you, we were so excited to see them! Hayden was in total heaven the whole time. He had no interest in me, and just wanted to "ke-pa" and "ga-ma" the whole time. He didn't even ask to watch a movie!
One night we carved pumpkins, and Hayden painted his.
Derrick's mom makes some seriously amazing sugar cookies. She brought some and we frosted them! She let Hayden frost his and then she made the face. The rest of us made our own faces. I think mine turned out pretty cute! Derrick's makes me laugh. His was broken so he made it like that on purpose. Hayden saw us holding our cookies up for the camera, so he had to do the same. You can see how much he enjoyed his cookie... err frosting!
On Sunday we took a walk around campus to show them what Derrick has been working on. The yellow stuff he is showing his dad is composite materials. The cute little man in the picture with us is Derrick's professor that he does research for.
Halloween... Hayden was Bob the Builder, and Halle was a strawberry. I really prefer making costumes to buying them because. It was exciting to find the good deals on their stuff and finding things that worked perfectly, like Hayden's tools and his red and yellow shirt. I made Halle's strawberry suit and leaf headband out of felt. My kids are so cute!
Trick or treating was pretty lame though. We went just after 6 and no one was home! We seriously went to 10 houses, and only got one person home! It was just too cold so we were done after that. We went to a friend's house for a little party and ate way too many yummy treats!

What cute costumes! Sounds like it's been pretty busy at your house. How fun to have family come and visit! I'm sure it makes being away a lot easier!
Those costumes rock Erin. I love the strawberry! I am amazed that she kept it on her head so well...and Hayden is an ADORABLE Bob the Builder. I think it is really funny that Owen LOVED Bob the Builder at Hayden's age too. We still have Bob the Builder legos that he likes to play with sometimes.
I am so glad that you had family with you. That is really nice.
I love that last picture. You look gorgeous, Erin!
That was a fun update to read. Your kids are super cute. :) I like the sugar cookie pictures. Your hair is getting really long!!
I dont know how I missed this post before! It was fun to read, and their costumes are adorable! I especially loved Halle's! :)
