So.. this was my first Thanksgiving without family. Luckily I had a big enough distraction that I really didn't think too much about it. I cooked dinner! Well, I cooked it with help from some friends. We were invited to dinner with a great couple from the first ward we were in when we moved here. They ended up having other people cancel (or something... can't remember) so we decided to have it here. We invited an investigator who we have had been able to help teach a few missionary lessons. We also were SO lucky to have the England family come too. They were in our ward when we were in Logan and they moved to Ohio when we moved to Indiana. This place still doesn't really feel like home, so it was good to have someone there from the place that did feel like home for so long. It was great to catch up with them.
While we cooked, Derrick and Abdul (the investigator) played football with our ward. I had to pull out the camera when I saw Derrick's oh-so-attractive socks.
I had never cooked a turkey before, but I must say it turned out to be pretty amazing. My dad always injected his turkeys with marinade, so I did the same. Between his tips and my mom's tips and tips from some random friends from facebook I came up with something that worked. Shantel and I cooked the stuffing, green bean casserole, roasted carrots, gravy, and an apple pie. Holly brought mashed potatoes, yams, rolls, and two pies. We had quite the feast!
Later that night the we and the Englands stayed up late talking and planning our trips for the black friday sales the next morning. Around 1 or 2 am we realized that there was no sense in going to sleep just to get up in a few hours, so we just stayed up all night! I still kind of can't believe that happened! It's been a long time since I have even been able to stay awake that long. I'm getting old I guess. It was SO fun though!
So Shantel and I headed out to the sales at 3:30. We were surprised at how mild everyone was. Maybe the crazies are all in Utah. :) I got some good deals and even some free after rebate things. We got home and crashed at 7:30.
So that was our Thanksgiving. It was a great time to be with friends and to reflect on all the things I'm grateful for, the main one being my family.
And maybe one day I will catch up on the dishes.

I didnt know you were able to see the Englands too! Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun!
That is awesome that you got to get together with the Englands. Good job on the turkey. Everyone makes it out to be so difficult but it is not so bad once you try huh?
NO WAY THE ENGLANDS LIVE NEAR YOU??!!! Thst is sooo cool! I'd love to live by some people from our old 52nd ward. I'm so happy for you guys! Looks like a great Thanksgiving!
That sounds like so much fun. And I agree it's cool the Englands got to come.
We have decided to go private. I sent an invite to the email I have for you, but if you don't get it please send your email to heidihailey@yahoo.com and if any other family members would like an invite they can send theirs as well. I hate some of the limitations of going private, but what can you do. Thanks Heidi
Sounds like a fabulous Thanksgiving! Everyone's commented on it already, but I'm super jealous that you got to spend it with the Englands. I bet it was a blast pulling that all-nighter. :)
