I have been asked how Hayden does with the pacifiers in the house now. Since he was so in love with them I thought he would have a really hard time with them, and if we would be able to have them at all they couldn't be the soothie kind. It turned out that the soothies were the only kind Halle liked and Hayden did surprisingly well with them. He has only put a pacifier in his mouth once, and it wasn't even the soothies. He instead loves to find them and bring them to the baby to put in her mouth.
Hayden's favorite thing lately is cooking. If I am in the kitchen doing anything he will whine and reach up to me and say, "Help??!!" or, " SEE???!!" When Derrick was cooking the other night he sprawled out on the counter to watch like this.
And then he found the knives!
My Dad has been working up here for a while (he's a finish carpenter so he travels), and I am so glad because he comes to our house and has dinner with us. Afterwards Hayden gives us a show. I'm not sure why but he is so entertaining and funny when my dad is around. Hayden doesn't get to see my dad very often, so it has been really fun for me to see them play together and how much Hayden loves him, and also how much my dad loves the kids. When my dad would take a shower here Hayden was always upset and kept asking for Grandpa, and even trying to get in the bathroom!
It's been a while since Derrick and I have been on a date. We realized one night that we just needed some quality time together to get away from the stresses of a dirty house, homework, and kids. But I am not ready to leave Halle just yet, so I suggested we take her with us. And as long as we are taking her we might as well take Hayden. He is entertainment anyway. So we went on a family date to get milk shakes! Hayden even got his own ice cream cone for the first time.
Derrick doesn't like car seat pictures, but I think they are cute because you can look through them and see how much they grow. For example:
2 weeks
We took some family pictures after church today. They are actually the only ones we have taken since the hospital, and I hate how I look in those! Only one turned out, and it's the one in the hearder on my blog. Afterwards Derrick and Halle had some daddy/daughter time.
HAHA. Can you tell it was fast sunday and Derrick started his fast just before lunch yesterday? He had zero energy.

Oh my goodness! That picture of Hayden with his mouth on the glass is SOOO funny!
Great pictures! I love seeing them! And the new family picture is great! You look so good!
You look cute Erin. I am so glad that Hayden isn't into those binkies anymore. Whew! It seems like it was not that long ago that you held funeral services for them. Good thing kids have a short memory.
Your babies must just be soothies babies. That is so funny. Owen and Reid were both not huge on pacifiers. I didn't even try to push it with Owen but this time I am really trying to get Reid to take one. He will only sometimes. I have tried only soothies and nuks though. Any recommendations?
I love it when my kids love their grandparents. I think it is so cute that Hayden loves his Grandpa that much. I bet your dad enjoys that.
I still can't get over how much I think Halle looks like you. She is adorable all bundled up in her carseat.
Fun posts! Liesl is 2 1/2 now, and Jay and I absolutely stress caution in parking lots. I make Liesl always hold the car if I need to take care of Mira first. One idea would be to let him play with the gas tank door. That keeps Liesl occupied.
Halle's so pretty! Your family pictures look great!
The family picture looks great! Derrick does look pretty pooped, but at least he's spending quality time with Halle, so sweet. Hayden is getting to be a pretty good helper, he's so sweet!
PS we noticed that you have 2 kids with H names, do you think you'll continue that H name tradition with your other kids? If so, we were in a silly mood one night, and made a list of other H names you could use. So just let me know :)
I was going to tell you at church yesterday, but forgot... you looked really good/cute! :) Made me jealous! *wink*
Thats so funny that Hayden loves the cooking!
I cant believe Halle is a month old! That went by way fast!!
Im not a 2nd time mom, but like Delia and everyone said.. would be my advice for the car thing. When I worked with my awesome disabled & 'behavioral' clients (so similar to kids?), thats whatwe would do.. open the one door, unbuckle and get out the one who wasnt independant, and use our body kind of to 'block' that one door... the others could unbuckle and clib out themselves, but would just be forced to wait (impatiently, lol) for us to finish and be ready to handle them both/all. ... My thought process and wording there was kind of weird, but I hope you got the point. ...Goodluck! :)
Oh! I fotgot: I like your cute new 'blog makeover'! :)
Erin...
I am still thinking about that car seat advice like Jes.
I REALLY hope my advice didn't seem judgmental or unsympathetic. I felt like it came across that way, but this is not how I feel!
I TOTALLY understand why you are afraid to put Halle on the ground. If it is that important to you, you should stick to your gut. Sorry if I gave you any other impression. Does Hayden do okay if you unbuckle him, get Halle out and have him get out her side of the car? Do you have child locks on the two back doors. That is the only way it works for us, because Owen would otherwise get out.
Also, before you get Hayden out, the double stroller thing is great - like Ginger said, or if you have a sling she can stand to be in (if not, we can make you one!)- that way you can have both your arms to get Hayden if he tries to bolt. Owen was a bolter too and thought it was a game. I don't know how you do it with two and Hayden being this age. You are an inspiration!
I really hope you have figured out something that works for you.
Okay...so let me clarify. If you have the stroller or sling you can keep Hayden buckled and put Halle in the sling or stroller first and then get Hayden. I wasn't sure if I made sense before.
Oooo...she is so, so pretty. :)
How fun! Halle is so beautiful! and Hayden is so funny. I love the face on the glass picture.
