A few Hayden firsts

I haven't really bragged about Hayden for a while, so I am going to do that now. He is 18 months old now and I am amazed at how funny and smart he is! And although he can be a trouble maker he really is a sweet boy too!

For instance, yesterday Derrick and I were sitting on the couch and Hayden walked in with an unopened package of toilet paper and sets it on the couch next to Derrick. Then he went back and came in the living room with the bathroom garbage can. Derrick started to get frustrated with him, because he always fascinated with whatever is in the garbage and we can't get him to leave it alone. But I said, "No look, he was trying to help you!" He had just seen Derrick go to the bathroom to blow his nose, so he decided to bring all the necessary materials to Derrick so he wouldn't have to leave the room again! HAHA! So what a sweet boy huh? We have to keep reminding ourselves that even though he gets into everything, we really think he is just trying to help us most of the time (like with unloading the dishwasher!!)

Yesterday he had his 18 month well baby appointment. While there, he stood on a big people scale, instead of sitting on the baby ones for the first time. He hates being put on those baby ones, so this was a fun change for him. He even got to look at himself in the mirror while he did it! I love our pediatrician's office! He weighs 23 lbs now. He also discovered how to open doorknobs for the first time. This was a first I am not too thrilled about! The appointment went really well, except that our doctor is concerned about him not talking yet. I have been too, but I tried to calm myself down by saying that he has been a little behind in most of his milestones. He can say hot, and when you ask him what sound a cat makes he says, "mow,"
but that's really about it besides his baby jabbering. They gave me a number to call for a program that helps kids with disabilities or delays, so I guess we will call and at least get him evaluated. Better safe than sorry. He only cried for a second for his shots, even though one of them feels like a bee sting, and he got his first sucker. I let him hold it until we got home, because I didn't want him eating in the car. But when I got him out of his car seat he had already unwrapped it and was going to town!

He also got his first girlfriend yesterday! I went to Sam's club with my friend, Liz, and her daughter, Maddie. They have those shopping carts that you can put two babies in, and those two were all over each other! They kept hugging, and Liz even said they kissed, but I missed it. How cute!

Today Hayden went to the dentist for the first time. I figured we should start good dental health early in case he ended up with his daddy's genes. Derrick hasn't had the best luck with teeth! I took him to a pediatric dentist by our house, and I really liked them! The appointment was at 11 and I was at home by 11:15. I didn't even have time to fill out the paperwork before they came and got me and the dentist came in. We had to stay after. They brushed his teeth and the dentist looked at them. Everything was good, but we have to get rid of the binkie! I knew this was coming, but I have been putting it off because I feel so bad getting rid of his comfort item. Nothing will replace the love he has for that thing. (and nothing will make him as quiet either!) But it is changing the shape of his mouth already, so it has to go!

Their office was so fun. There were lovesacs and huge balls everywhere. Hayden was in heaven. He even got a balloon.

And here he is climbing into his high chair on his own. It's on the highest setting too.
Which reminds me of another sweet first! Today I put his lunch plate on his tray, and he automatically folded his arms all ready for the prayer. He's getting it! These are the joyful moments of motherhood that Elder Ballard was talking about.

Sorry that my posts are always so long and full of stuff. I have been insanely busy with a project I have been planning for months for my Relief Society. We also were all sick last week, and I am having the hardest time getting over it. Luckily, the event is on Saturday so we should all breathe easier next week (and maybe we will finally have some clean dishes and good meals for dinner too!)

Those pictures of our little angels are so cute! I love it. Good job at taking hayden to the dentist. It made me laugh when I went to Maddie's 12 month doctor apt because the little paper they give you said that you should be scheduling their first dentist appointment and Maddie still didn't have any teeth. ANyway, don't let our big shindig stress you too much please. We are so ready for this thing!

Cute pictures!! I can't believe he's 18 months old. Wow! I'm sorry you have to take the binkie away. One idea that might help would be to give him a sippy cup instead. That worked with Liesl when I transitioned her off the binkie. I hope, though, that you figure out something that works for him. Good luck!

When I read this entry the other day, I had to laugh! Hayden is so funny! He has such a cute little personality! I love that you write out these stories. :)
...as for me, I don't know about me being a 'good' mom, lol, Id hope so, but its probably more just 'paranoid' than anything! I keep having nightmares that something happens to her while I sleep, so in real life I literally jump at every little noise she makes I swear!
...and thanks! Im quite proud of my new blog makeover! *wink*... not really, Im just barely learning and getting into the whole digi-scrapbooking thing, but I like stuff like that so it sounds fun. I would like to! :)

So cute. I can't believe how fast he is growing. It is pretty funny Paris (almost 4) is only 28 pounds. They just do things at their own pace. I would call about the early intervention. I have had some friends do it and it really helped their kids. Don't worry to much. They all do things at their own pace.

I wouldn't worry about Hayden not talking. My two year old doesn't say anything yet. But I did just take his binky away and he is talking a lot more. If he doesn't start talking by 2 1/2 then I will get him tested. Sorry your binky experience is not going so well. Mine was a breeze and I have no idea why. But I still give in every once in a while if I just can't shut him up. But that probably isn't good advice. Also his teeth were a little screwed up because of the binky and they have fixed themselves in about two weeks so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe he isn't ready. Those are just my experiences maybe they will help, maybe you'll just tell me to shut up:)
