Derrick talked me into going snowboarding with him. We went to the Warren Miller film both nights so we could get a bunch of free Canyons tickets. He went crazy (and really sweet) and decided it would be more fun to take me than go with his friends that are good. I learned a few things on Monday.
1. When you haven't exercised more than walking since sophomore year (of high school) activities that require the use of all your muscles are painful.
2. Cutting food uses even your neck muscles. oohhhh I can feel the pain everywhere.
3. I am not good at snowboarding.
OK, so maybe I should start at the beginning. It was crazy finding a babysitter. We didn't end up getting everyone lined up until 9:00 or so Sunday night. I was worried about torturing some poor souls with having Hayden all day. He cries a lot for babysitters and I just felt bad having someone do that job for a whole day. So we split it up. Thanks Danielle, Katie, Tannie, and Richard! We really appreciate it.
I don't really like leaving my baby for a whole day. I missed him. And he won't really eat when I'm not there.
When we got to the Canyons Derrick helped me boot up. I really hate those boots. Impossible to walk in. Who thought up the idea of wearing the most uncomfortable boots ever, strapping yourself to this board thing so you can't move, and riding it down snow. What a strange idea. Here we are in the parking lot. Just ignore this picture.
Derrick was wonderful and very patient with me. I started out pretty good, but this quickly changed to horrible. For some reason I get stuck on the left side and stay there the whole time. Even if there are dangerous cliffs that I am about to fall off. I took lots of breaks and lots of falls. I fell on the same spot three times and I still can't really sit normal... :(Derrick bought me these fancy rose colored goggles. I guess he knew I would need them.
Every time I would fall I would just sit and rest and let the groups of children go whizzing by. Nothing makes you feel better than being stuck and in pain and about to fall off a cliff and watching tiny children go flying past you. I was easily the worst person at the whole resort. Once there was a group of French children. They were yelling at each other in French. It was hilarious.
Here I am resting again. This was at the beginning and that's why I'm still smiling. At least I have cute snow clothes.
Here I am resting yet again. It was really pretty up there.
The best part of the day was on the ride down the lift to the parking lot. We sat next to three boys that ended up going to the same school as Derrick. They talked about what they were going into and then one guy asked me. I said, "I'm a domestic engineer." A few of them nodded their heads. HAHA!! It was great. They had no clue what I was talking about. I just laughed and told them I was a stay at home mom.
Well I think I have had my fill of snowboarding for a while. Thanks for taking me Derrick! Even though it even hurts to type, (even my forearm muscles hurt!) I had lots of fun being with you!
On to Rocky!
